Ok so vent time sorry

Ok, so let's break this into parts so if something I talk about, you don't care for, you can skip it easy.

1. My family

We all got family drama, yes sir. I know. My family has had a "cheating" issue lately, though I won't go into detail, my family member has been venting on me. In addition this has caused my family to stop offering financial support, even though THEY have taken all my college refunds, I've allowed them to claim me as a dependent on taxes and I've tried to be understanding they needed the money, but that was MY money in the first place. WE took it out FOR MY LIVING EXPENSES and somehow they still used it for them.

I know they have been through really hard times and are in just as bad a situation as I am so it's really hard for them to even survive, much less help me. IT still doesn't help me to know this, so whatever.

2. Cats

So what set it all off, I just came home from a 400$ vet appointment that should have been 30$. There were some things I missed and in addition to missing a few shots, somehow and in somebody's error, both cat's have respiratory infections. I have NO idea where it came from but it cost a shitload of money, 170$ EACH, then the shots I had missed that they NEEDED to get their county licenses. I need the license since the landlord is coming around and fining hugely for those people who have unlawful pets. e___e I had Salem and Miso legal, but it had expired in January and I really didn't have the money to get all their boosters and pay for the tags. I need to get Miso fixed and a broken tooth pulled, another 270$.

3. My home

Due to the cats, I no longer have money for rent! HELL YES, right? :dummy:

My rent is 675$ and I have about 300$ to my name right now. Luckily I have all my bills paid for already. I also need my dishwasher and sink repaired. the sink is clogged and I can't even use it, and the apartment repair guy can't come around anytime soon.

My laptop also needs a new fan and to be re-insured. About another 300$ right there.

4. My car

It needs new tags (mine are due in april) and you aren't allowed to drive without it. I need to also pay insurance and I can't drive without it. I need a new fan/AC, about an 800$ work job mostly labor. My both my back rims are bent and threaten the safety of my car. I think it happened when I hit a surpise pothole last week. I didn't see it due to rain and flooded roads.

---

So how to fix these things? Eat less? Well that's certainly not an option why?

For those of you who don't know I'm both gluten/wheat and dairy intolerant. That means my body doesn't make the chemicals to break that stuff down in your gut and it basically like a spiky ball of proteins going through your body. Or at least it sure feels like it! I pretty much have pepto bismol on hands at all times! why.

For the last month I have been eating bread. YES BREAD, like the 6/12 count rolls you buy at walmart for like 2$ because it's almost expired and UBER cheap? Yeah, that shit. It's not bad if you microwave it and warm it up.

I also buy those 1-2$ frozen meals. I also can't have those because most have gluten and dairy in them. Buying veggies and fruits is WAY more expensive and I'll be damned if I eat before my cats do, or if I eat before paying rent or if I eat before insuring my cats get their medicine and vet treatments.

Sometimes I'll buy rice noodles or go out to eat just to have something else, but it really isn't something I can afford.

However everyone whines at me:

You don't have your priorities straight.
Put off vet visits! Pets can wait. <- FU, how about you make your sick kid wait?!
Oh well you don't have to finish your homework, sleep is more important.
Oh but gluten intolerance is a fad, not real.< FU too.
Oh but you bought commissions, right? <- To support others who needed serious help.

I don't really eat anything else. I have Miso soup sometimes for breakfast and rice cause those are also uber cheap. Maybe fruits or veggies if I see them on sale. Oranges are cheap usually, 50cents around here.

--

On tops of all this shit I'm trying to take 6 college classes, manage a thesis, do commissions and freelance and look for apartments because odds are I'll be moving in with NukeRooster this summer. She lives a few hours north of me and we get along pretty well, I think so if we can survive in a tent with creepy stalkers and raccoons for a few days and not kill each other, I think we'll be ok in an apartment. If I don't get hired to a studio somewhere, I'll just move in with her and we are looking for places currently. We found one we like, but we haven't had a chance to go there and look at it yet.

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear about all of that. Money issues are super un-fun, and I am actually in/entering a similar financial situation to yourself. And, yep, food is pretty much what one ends up cutting back on.

I basically exist off of rice, lentils, and the bargin bin at Kroger. Sometimes they have a bag of produce for a dollar there, so I'll take that, but for the most part it's canned foods marked down to 40 cents or less and whatever people give me/leftovers at social events that people are going to throw away. ^^; Sad, yes, but I say all this just to let you know that I totally get where you're coming from. Living on your own is an expensive necessity when you don't have roommate options, so I'm really glad that you and Tat are going to help each other cut costs. I hope this new venture turns out well for the both of you.

Money issues are stressful, but yeah, I'm hoping to make it work with Tat. She and I are pretty excited about moving in together. I'm sure with a roomate, and one I know I can trust, it'll make life easier.

If you're currently in college, is it possible to take out another loan? I know that this is kinda not the best option you have, but if it's this or not to be able to eat, then if I were you I'd take out the loan.

It's hard to balance college with a job as well, but maybe you'd think about trying to find a night job and perhaps dropping a class or two?

It's not shameful to drop a class if you have too much on your plate. You're a human being and you can only take so much.

If your family is taking your money, you should make a separate bank account from them and don't share your pin number with anyone in the family.

I wish you the absolute best, this situation of yours sounds like a bunch of shit.

I would rather suffer as I am than accumulate more debt. I already owe 70k, I'm not adding to that.

I can't drop a class, I'm graduating in May and I'm not extending it over summer either. I'm so close to finishing college forever, dragging it out over 3 or 4 months would just make me even more miserable. I have applied for other jobs around here and I am always turned down and I've been looking for 3 years now. I'm either over-qualified or the exact hours they want just don't work with me. I have to sleep sometime and I'm on campus from 8-7 every day. Working a 7-8 hour night shift means literally no sleep. Maybe an hour a night and I'm not doing that to myself, that'll only make it worse. Also, I DO WORK I'm a freelancer, when I'm not doing homework, I'm doing client work. I make far more as a freelancer now than I would at some low pay night job, I make enough. I simply had too many extra expenses pop up this month with my family not helping. Also, I go to a private college, so the cost of everything is exponentially higher. The tuition alone for 5 classes is 19k. So If I dropped out of even ONE class, that's another 5-10k of loans to add. I'm not adding more debt.

I do have a separate bank account from them. I have for over 6 years. The problem is because they have cosigned on my loans, the college sends the refund checks to THEM, not me, and it's on my parents to be honest and give it to me. I have asked numerous times to have the checks sent to me, but the school refuses.

I'm sorry to hear all of this. It seems like I can't offer you much advice. I wish you the best of luck getting out of college and with your expenses.

Is there a Trader Joe's somewhere near you? I know they have a large section of GF/WF food, but you'd have to check for dairy yourself. Also, have you tried going through foreign shops (Asian, Indian) for raw ingredients? The rice at our Indian shops are a good price as they last a verrrry long time (we cook the rice ourselves- in case you didn't know Chinese and Indian rice is very different), and you could probably get some other things like plantains (which can be made very quickly, but I think they're a bit more expensive- treat yourself to some on occassion).

And it's sad to see that the money you need and deserve goes to your family... (Although I understand that if they need it more than you, they should have it), but you also cannot hold yourself back by completely trying to take up their burden as much as you can (with the taxes and stuff). Unless there is a reason they cannot support themselves, then you should help them only a bit, and try to get your own life stabilized first.

Good luck getting that apartment with Tat, I hope sharing the rent and having someone to talk to can relieve some of the major stress! After all, being less stressed does benefit your physical health a lot :)

I hope that you can scrounge up some money to help your cats! Good luck!

Trader Joes, there is one in Sarasota, but it's clear on the other side of town, a good 20-30 minute drive and the money I would save there, I just would end up putting into gas. It's not really worth the drive. But I do know they have a great selection of food I could eat.

I do buy my rice from an oriental market down the street. I hadn't thought to look into the vegetables there for pricing and how it compares to the average market here. I do buy plantain there also, they are very good, but yeah expensive. I haven't had them in so long. They go really good with some powdered sugar or rice. (the good rice) I have a steamer at home and I can't remember which rice I get, but it's a long grain rice from India. It's so different from the cheap American rice. Normally when I cook, I use my bamboo steamer and wok to steam my food but it's just getting so much to buy fresh things. The next time I go there I'll look into the produce they have. I just assumed it'd cost more..

Some quick and simple recipies you can do with the rice: Smash a banana, and mix it with warm rice, sugar, and plain yogurt (<3 I swear that is my favorite meal of all time... if you balance out the ingredients properly). Also, if you're sick, you can mix rice with boiled water and have it like a soup (that's what my parents give me whenever I'm sick... although I don't like it much, but they love it).

As for the oriental market, yeah, the vegetables are more expensive (but you can find more ingredients than in normal supermarkets). For the Trader Joe's, could you find a friend who lives closer to there, and just ask them to pick stuff up for you on occassion (and you can pay them the money it costs)? Or get coupons online and buy a bunch of cereal and eat it throughout the day (that's what I do, and it's pretty easy to find coupons for stuff- I just got something for Pathmark really quick: www.livingrichwithcoupons.com/… I didn't go on the Pathmark website, it won't work on my iPad lol)

One of my housemate's parents are coeliacs, and I did a project on it when I was studying catering... It's ridiculous how much dietary requirements like that can cross off the menu :c  I can't eat cheese, and that's difficult enough.

Ah... I would love to send you something like a care package of food, just to take those expenses off your mind for a while, but I'm in the UK. Fruit and Veg can be ridiculously cheap where I'm from, because everywhere is farmland. I'd hate to live somewhere that produce is expensive because I'd have barely anything left to eat ;_;

Sht girl, I would love to help in any way but I got scammed a few days ago and i got arrested cuz i was a su-accomplice? of a crime and i haven't had a clue about it. On top it off i almost got cuffed and dragged to the station......... great.......... In my PJ's!! (the embarrassment of it all)

After a LENGTHY discussion and receipts and money transfer papers that i saved (THANK GOD) I was cleared but will still go to court with probably a probation period right after and a Bill i REALLY don't need right now............... on top if all it will go in my dossier but as a unwilling accomplice of a crime that i did unknowingly...... just great.

there goes my shiny clean record.....

Why are they penalizing you if you are an unwilling or unknowing accomplice? You had no idea, yet still punished. That is ridiculous.

tell the court that.......
The police can just give me pointers and the help i can give them in exchange for giving info on the crime itself  that i had no clue i participated in.......

They understand that but the justice system right after their jurisdiction ends and its passed on might see it differently (and they will) cuz i still did the crime not the other person even if i was a clueless proxy.... they can just soften the blow by me ''helping'' and being ''helpful'' by giving all my support to the police

You could buy points, all of these I will accept points for also. I will have to set up a commission widget for you though. Just giving it to me will not let me withdraw that money.

25$ is 2500 points

If you do not want to do that, you could mail me cash in an envelope, though it is risky to be stolen.
