My Sketchdump Collection: ahkward.deviantart.com/gallery…
The sketch to me is the post important tool we have as artists. Often, and you can see just in these thumbs, I draw, and I draw lots. Sketches are raw ideas and too many people try to make them entire master works of art o their own, and well, I find that terrifying. Why would you do that to yourself?!
Sketches are raw, they are rough and just ideas. Don't try to rush into the drawings expecting it to be perfect. In addition, I know a lot of people are against sketches. Why? They call it lazy and not worth putting on deviantART or showing to others. How dare I not take my time to make every single thing I post only glorious finished artwork?! Huff huff huff.
Anyone can sit for hours perfecting a drawing. Can you get a gesture, can you get the emotion, can you get the pose in a simple set of strokes? 10, 5, 3? Sketching is what helps improve those skills. Sketching helps see forms quicker and more easily, that is why I see it as such an important skill. Drawing perfectly and cleaning an image is only half the battle. You gotta walk before you run; haha well you gotta sketch before you can draw. Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it. - Salvador Dali
